# Canelo uneasy with fighting Mexican rivals

Pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez says that he is not keen on the idea of facing fellow Mexican fighters in the future.

Canelo’s last all-Mexican showdown was his victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in 2017, and the unified super middleweight champion has downplayed any talk of a potential fight with Jaime Munguia.

“I represent Mexico and I do not like to fight with Mexicans, I do not see any sense in doing that,” Canelo said to TV Azteca. “Jaime Munguia has potential but he still has some fights to go before he reaches this level. I am not closing the door to anything, but for now I would not like to.”

Canelo also revealed that he will not be returning to light-heavyweight any time soon due to the physical disadvantages he could have at the weight against the division’s top names.

The Mexican star previously claimed the WBO 175lbs title with a spectacular KO of Sergey Kovalev, although he seems to have found his home at super-middleweight for the foreseeable future. He said:

“Eddy doesn’t want us to go up to 175lbs again. It’s giving away a lot of advantages. I want to go for all the titles in the division \[super-middleweight\]. That’s the goal and we’ll see what happens next.”
