Carl Frampton will fight on –– if the right showdowns are put in front of him.
The 31-year-old met promoter Frank Warren last week to plot his future, having previously considered retiring following his defeat at the hands of Josh Warrington.
Frampton was outpointed by the Leeds man –– the IBF World champion –– at the Manchester Arena, by margins of 116-113 and 116-112 twice, exclusively live on BT Sport Box Office, in December.
And the Belfast featherweight and his team, Warren and management company MTK Global, expect there to be very good options on the table.
“I feel that I would fight again if the right fight is offered and the terms are right,” ‘The Jackal’ said in his Sunday Life column recently. “I want to be able to take on the best, otherwise there’s no point fighting on. I have the fire in my belly to go back into the elite level and prove a point.”
Oscar Valdez, the WBO World champion who the aforementioned Warrington was targeting before being told he have to face his mandatory challenger Kid Galahad or lose his belt, has expressed a desire to face Frampton, while a trilogy clash with WBA Super champion at featherweight Leo Santa Cruz also tickles the fancy of the former unified super-bantamweight king.
“I still can’t say for sure that I will fight again,” he added, “but I don’t have doubts that I still have enough left in the tank to box for another world title.
“I would even consider a 10-rounder before another world title shot, depending on what the options are. If I am to fight again though it would be in the summer because I have a court case with Cyclone Promotions coming up in May and that has to be out of the way.
“I also have to make sure that fighting again makes sense for me and my family as I’m not going to be used in any way as just another opponent.
“But I do believe that given the right opportunity, with the right terms, I will take it because I genuinely feel I have what it takes to win — whether that’s against Santa Cruz or Valdez.”
