Carl Froch has fired back at Anthony Joshua today, as the pair’s war of words continues to rumble on.
Former world champion Froch has not been shy in criticising Joshua and has called into question ‘AJ’s mentality, training set up, resume amongst a host of other things over the past few months.
When discussing why he parted ways with long time coach Rob McCracken, Joshua took a pop back at Froch, who was also trained by McCracken.
Appearing on Talksport, ‘The Cobra’ bit back at the former unified world champion, whom he told to “grow up.”
“Why’s he being so sensitive? He’s a big lad, he’s a professional fighter. If someone has a bit of constructive criticism to put his way, he should take that – especially from someone who’s won four world titles and been inducted into the hall of fame.
It’s no personal vendetta against ‘AJ.’ There’s no problem, I want him to succeed and do well. It’s good if we have a unified, undisputed champion in Britain. Whether it’s Fury or ‘AJ,’ I don’t care. Let’s keep the heavyweight boxing scene alive in Britain.
He’s shown a bit of weakness there. He needs to grow up a little bit and grow a pair.”
Joshua backers will hope there is no weakness on display next month, when he rematches old foe Dillian Whyte at the 02 Arena, the same venue that played host to their memorable British title fight back in 2015.
With a mega money fight against Deontay Wilder in Saudi Arabia waiting in the wings, Joshua can ill afford to take his eye of the ball against Whyte.
