With Anthony Joshua back in good form, Carl Froch has been considering what might happen should he get a third fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
Joshua fought the Ukraine southpaw twice in back to back fights in 2021 and 2022. Though he boxed well and showed things he hadn’t in the ring before, he lost both fights on points.
Joshua expressed real frustration at not being able to get close enough to Usyk to do any damage, particularly after the second fight in which he dumped the belts he lost over the edge of the ropes.
Since then after many people wrote him off he has come back with four solid wins, including impressive knockouts of Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou most recently.
Speaking on Froch on Fighting, the former super middleweight world champion assessed Joshua’s chances should he meet Usyk once more.
“I’ve got to say Usyk. He’s already beat him twice. When Usyk steps on the gas and ups the tempo and work rate he dominates. It’s not like it’s a close fight, Usyk is far superior.
“Good question though ’cause ‘AJ’ looked very good against Ngannou, who was making his second fight, which sounds ridiculous.
“He’s looking his opponents in the eyes, stepping through with his punches, rotating his body through, that’s why he knocked out Ngannou.”
