Carl Froch doesn’t regard the upcoming fight between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou as anything more than ‘a load of crap’ in boxing terms.
Fury has exacerbated many with his antics outside of the ring. The current lineal and WBC champion has called out everyone and even challenged Anthony Joshua and Oleskandr Usyk to fight him on the same night but then ultimately settled on fighting a boxing novice in his next match.
That man is Ngannou, a former MMA heavyweight champion and big hitter who has never had a single professional round.
Ngannou has been trained by Mike Tyson for the fight but even with that in mind, few people – including his MMA peers – give him any sort of chance at all in the 10-round contest that takes place in Riyadh on October 6.
Speaking on Froch on Fighting, former super-middleweight champion Froch shared his disappointment with the fight.
“In terms of professional boxing, this is a load of crap, I’ve got to be honest.”
Froch then went on to explain why he thinks Ngannou has no chance.
“The reason I say it will be a load of rubbish in terms of a boxing match is that Francis Ngannou, although he’s an MMA fighter, he’s making his professional debut. He’s a big strong guy and you think to yourself if he does land a punch on Tyson Fury’s chin maybe something will happen but it’s professional boxing, the art of pugilism, he’s not going to be able to land on Fury’s chin, that’s the point. There won’t be a lucky punch. It’s a mismatch.”
Froch then explained why the event itself is generating such interest and admitted he would be watching.
“But I think it will be a decent event. I’ll be watching it, I’m even looking forward to it. Ngannou will have a go and it will bring a lot of eyes to the sport.”
