Carl Froch has shared what he believes could be the main stumbling block for a potential undisputed fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
The touted date of April 29 is now less than six weeks away and concerns are growing amongst fans that the historic contest may not happen.
Speaking on Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ admitted that he believed that time constraint could prove too tight to get the fight made.
“I do think it will happen, but my main concern is the six week time constraint. It’s not long for a world title fight to happen. But if it doesn’t happen now, it’s on Tyson Fury and I think it looks terrible for him.”
“Remember Tyson Fury on the build up to the AJ fight? He was saying he’d fight Joshua for free and give the money to charity. Now all of a sudden the Usyk fight’s happening and he’s demanding 70% of the purse.”
“Sometimes I think to myself he can be a bit of a walking contradiction at times. It’s a bit of a nightmare, because you don’t really know if you’re coming or going.”
Fury and Usyk agreed on a 70/30 split last week, however there has been no official announcement as of yet as the clock continues to tick.
Just days after settling on a split, Fury insisted on the removal of the two way contractual rematch clause, leading some observers to criticise him for ‘moving the goalposts’ and trying to wrangle out of the fight.
Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas admitted it would soon be time to “pull the plug” on the talks for April 29th, however there is a hope that a date in early June is also being looked at.
