Carl Froch has revealed who he believes the best fighter he ever shared a professional ring with was.
In his glittering 35 fight career, Froch shared the ring with some of the finest boxers of his generation, and only two men ever got the better of him.
And in a recent feature with RingTV ‘The Cobra’ named one of them, Danish former world champion Mikkel Kessler, as the best he ever faced.
“Mikkel Kessler.
He’s the best all-rounder. He can box, punch, fight up close, and his jab is excellent. The reason his jab is so effective is because he’s left-handed but fights orthodox.
Kessler has good defense, but he’ll stand there and have a fight with you. He is one very tough man and took great shots from me in both our fights.”
Kessler handed Froch the first defeat of his career back in 2010, though the Nottingham man got his revenge three years later.
The only other fighter to get the better of the Nottingham man was hall of famer Andre Ward, though Froch has never seemed to be quite as amicable about that loss as the Kessler defeat.
He hung up the gloves back in 2014 after his memorable rematch with George Groves, though has repeatedly teased a potential comeback.
Froch has been a vocal critic of crossover boxing, and has called for a showdown with controversial YouTuber Jake Paul on numerous occasions.
Unfortunately for the Brit, a fight against Paul – which would be a mega pay day – does not appear to be on the horizon any time soon.
