Hall of Fame boxer, Carl Froch, has made this thoughts clear about the rematch between Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte.
Joshua-Whyte 2 was confirmed earlier this week in a fight billed as ‘History of Violence’ and is set to take place on August 12 at London’s O2 Arena.
‘AJ’ beat ‘The Body Snatcher’ back in 2015 to claim the British title in an action packed thriller which ended with Whyte sprawled across the canvas after a vicious uppercut from Joshua.
British boxing legend, Froch, has been vocal about Joshua being gunshy since his shock loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019 and, when speaking on the Lightweight Boxing Show, now claims the Brit is ‘scared of his own shadow’.
“Anthony Joshua, he’s frightened of his own shadow. Since he lost to Andy Ruiz I don’t think he’s been the same. He’s had back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk and then he came back with that win against Jermaine Franklin which was just a formality for him, he just jabbed and moved and got the win.
I want to see Anthony Joshua more aggressive, like he used to be when he was a bit more tenacious. He would go for the win and go for the finish.”
Froch doesn’t seem particularly interested in the rematch, but does admit it’s a smart move for ‘AJ’ before entering the ring against Deontay Wilder.
“The Whyte fight, if he can beat Dillian it will set up the big tournament [fight against Wilder] that’s happening in Saudi.
August 12, Anthony Joshua-Dillian Whyte, it’s not the best fight out there. They’ve already boxed before. They boxed as amateurs and pros, AJ won as a pro.
It’s good fight for Anthony Joshua to take before he takes on someone like Deontay Wilder in Saudi Arabi for mega bucks.”
Whyte and Joshua will go head to head next month live on DAZN PPV for £26.99 in the UK.
