Carl Froch has toyed with the idea of a crossover boxing match or exhibition in recent times, but he says only one man could really inspire him to lace up again.
The three-time super middleweight champion was in a strange spat with social media superstar, Jake Paul, not long ago, but his loss to Tommy Fury put an end to any fight speculation.
Instead, ‘The Cobra’ said on his most recent episode of Froch on Fighting that UFC star Conor McGregor was the only fight he’d entertain.
“The only guy at the minute that comes to mind is McGregor. I seen him with Eddie Hearn the other say and somebody asked him ‘what about Carl Froch?’ and his answer was [imitates slapping.]”
“What that means to me is that Conor McGregor doesn’t want to fight me in a boxing ring. Which is fine. I don’t blame him. He’d get absolutely annihilated. Nobody else celebrity-wise that I’d like to give a pasting.”
Although relatively jovial about the idea, a conflict between the two combat stars has been brewing ever since Froch’s comments on McGregor’s efforts in his sole pro boxing outing – a tenth round TKO loss to Floyd Mayweather.
Since then, they’ve traded insults and talked-up the potential of a fight. Whether or not that would be on exhibition terms remains to be seen, but the MMA star has made it clear he’s serious about a boxing return one day.
As for Froch, he’s more comfortable behind the punditry desk, having built a great legacy for British boxing and cemented that with a recent Hall of Fame induction.
