Carl Froch is open to fighting Jake Paul should he come through Tommy Fury.
The American YouTuber-turned-fighter faces Fury tonight in Saudi Arabia in a catchweight contest for a cruiserweight ranking. In the build up, thought, some of his harshest words have been reserved for Froch.
Froch, a former super middleweight world champion, irked Paul by claiming he has not right to call himself a professional fighter, and things spiralled from there.
BT Sport Box Office cleverly got Froch on the broadcast, and the recent headline-grabber delivered by saying he would look at a contract to face the American star.
“I’m ready. Listen he speaks well to get the headlines but the reality is that Jake Paul wouldn’t step in the ring with someone like me. He has a job to do against Fury first but If he’s serious about it, get the contract over to me and we can take it from there.”
Paul has said previously that he’d like Froch to first fight his latest opponent, Anderson Silva – both to see he still ‘has it’ as well as to build his profile in America.
Froch has declined and, if looking at it realistically, it’s a fight that probably won’t happen, regardless of how the Fury fight plays out. Still, it’s an unexpected and fun beef between two of boxing’s divisive characters.
It may not even be on the table if Jake Paul fails to silence Fury. Both men are confident that they win by stoppage, and only one, if that, can be correct.
