Carl Froch has predicted how Gervonta Davis versus Ryan Garcia ends.
The two young, undefeated stars will meet in the ring at a catchweight of 136lb for a non-title fight that has all the hype of one. With 45 stoppages between them, not many are predicting it goes the distance at the T-Mobile Arena this Saturday.
Froch – who has recently been inducted into the Hall of Fame – praised the ‘confident’ and ‘exciting’ Davis on his YouTube channel.
“Gervonta Davis. Powerful. He’s got an elusive style. He loves the uppercut. I love watching him fight.”
He had kind words for Garcia, too, praising the 24-year-old’s speed.
“Ryan Garcia – look how fast he is, look how powerful that left hook is … I can’t separate them. I cannot split that fight. I’d probably say that Gervonta Davis wins, but how do you beat Ryan Garcia?”
Froch had to look back to Garcia’s 2021 fight against Britain’s Luke Campbell. Campbell dropped Garcia in the second round, but the American survived it and went on to win by body shot stoppage.
The break in defence there has Froch predicting ‘Tank’ to finish the job if he can do the same.
“Luke Campbell had him down. So that little chink in his armour where Luke Campbell dropped him, I’d say if Gervonta Davis drops him he’s one of the best finishers I’ve seen. He just stays on top of him and looks for that big finish.”
“So, Gervonta Davis stoppage in what will be an absolutely close, brilliant fight.”
‘The Cobra’s prediction sides with the oddsmakers, who also have ‘Tank’ as the favourite, but certainly not by a wide margin.
All predictions will be proved right or wrong come Saturday night in Vegas.
