Carl Froch has weighed in with his prediction for the mouthwatering undisputed lightweight world title fight this weekend between Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Haney puts his WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO belts on the line against the masterful Lomachenko at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, in one of the standout bouts of the boxing calendar thus far.
And whilst Froch gave plenty of praise to Lomachenko when breaking down the fight, he revealed on Froch on Fighting that he believes the youthful exuberance of Haney may prove too much for him.
“Before the fight with Teofimo Lopez, I always thought Lomachenko was unbeatable. His footwork and movement is so good, he’s like a magician in the ring.”
“Devin Haney is young, confident and ambitious, and I reckon he’s the favourite for this one – he’s got to be.”
‘The Dream’ became undisputed champion at 135lbs with an emphatic win over George Kambosos Jr in Australia last year, before cementing his status with an equally impressive victory in the rematch.
Lomachenko was a unified world champion at the weight before being unseated by Teofimo Lopez back in 2021.
However, he has bounced back from the defeat with three consecutive wins over Masayoshi Nakatani, Richard Commey and Jamaine Ortiz.
A meeting with the prodigal Shakur Stevenson could be in store for the winner, after Stevenson announced his arrival to the lightweight division with an impressive stoppage victory over Japanese opponent, Shuichiro Yoshino, earlier this month.
That said, Haney has made no secret of the fact that he is tight at the weight, and there is a sense that a move up to 140lbs is inevitable for the 24 year old sooner rather than later.
