Carl Froch has weighed in with his thoughts on the possibility of a heavyweight dust up between Anthony Joshua and Zhilei Zhang, following the latter’s stunning win over Joe Joyce this past weekend.
For the second time in six months, Zhang left the British home crowd silent by stopping Joyce, retaining the WBO interim heavyweight world title in destructive fashion.
And though Joshua got the better of Zhang when they met in the Olympics back in 2012, many observers seem to think it would be a different outcome if they locked horns at this stage of their respective careers.
Speaking on his YouTube channel Froch On Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ admitted that he does not believe ‘AJ’ is ready the fight currently.
“I don’t think Anthony Joshua is ready for a fight with Zhilei Zhang, based on the performance I’ve just seen.
I think Eddie Hearn would 100% shy away from that fight.”
Despite ‘The Juggernaut’ coming in at a career heaviest weight and attempting to deploy different tactics from their first meeting, Zhang managed to finish him in both earlier and more brutal fashion than when they met back in April, with a picture perfect right hook in the third round bringing the contest to a close.
‘Big Bang’ now looks nailed on fore a money spinning world title shot in 2024 against either Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk.
As for Joyce, there have been calls for him to consider calling time on his career, such was the damage inflicted upon him by Zhang across the eight or so rounds they’ve shared in the ring this year.
