Former super-middleweight world champion, Carl Froch, has had a dig at a former foe calling his fights “dull” and “boring”.
Froch is a British sporting legend and was recently rewarded for his stellar fighting career by being inducted into the International Boxing Hall-of-Fame.
In his heyday, ‘The Cobra’ was one of the best 168lbers in the world, winning multiple titles and boasting victories over George Groves, Arthur Abraham and Jermaine Taylor.
Froch defeated every opponent he ever faced, bar one. Although he suffered defeat to Mikkel Kessler in the boxing Super Six tournament, he avenged that loss three years later to retain his IBF world title – the only man Froch was unable to get a victory against was Andre Ward.
Ward beat him by unanimous decision in the final of the tournament and, due to the convincing nature of the win, the two never ran it back before the ‘Son of God’ moved up to become champion at light-heavyweight.
Speaking about possible guests to appear on his weekly “Froch on Fighting” YouTube show, the Brit didn’t think Ward would be good entertainment value, just like his fighting days.
“I wouldn’t invite Andre Ward, he’s not a bad broadcaster but, he used to fight a bit boring, he’d put a glass eye to sleep.
Performances were dull, let’s be honest. He knew how to win, he was talented etc, he got a win over me, fair play. Talented kid. Would I invite him on the show? Probably not, but he’d probably reject the offer anyway.”
Ward is one of the few boxers to retire undefeated, boasting a record of 32 wins in 32 fights with 16 knockouts. The former two-weight world champion will go down as one of his generation’s best.
