Carl Froch has shared his view on how the heavyweight world title showdown between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois will go, saying one man is ‘almost unbeatable’ but that it is ‘no mismatch.’
Dubois really does have his work cut out in Poland on August 26th when he has his first crack at a legitimate world title. He faces a big step up in quality with IFB, WBO and WBA king Usyk in the opposite corner with what will feel very much like a home crowd for the Ukrainian.
Speaking on his own Froch on Fighting channel, ‘The Cobra’ explains why he is looking forward to the bout.
“I think it’s exciting.
Me personally I don’t think it’s a mismatch. A lot of people are saying that. I can see why on paper, cause Oleksandr Usyk has reigned supreme. He’s an undefeated gold medalist, unified cruiserweight champ, and he stepped up to heavyweight and now he has all the titles with them two wins against Anthony Joshua.”
Despite those credentials, Froch thinks Dubois has a chance, unlike plenty of others in the sport.
“He’s got a puncher’s chance, and that doesn’t just mean if he’s lucky with a punch and he lands. He can punch hard and, if he connects with that right hand which he could so at any stage in this fight, a 12-round fight, he’s going be coming, he’s fit and strong, he’s definitely got a chance.”
Finally, he made a decisive prediciton of a points victory for Usyk.
“If you put their names into a computer, 99 times out of 100, maybe even 100 times out of 100, it’s going to have Usyk winning that fight. He doesn’t know how to lose. He’s an unbelievable talent, he’s almost unbeatable.
He will probably win this fight on points over 12 rounds and maybe even get a late stoppage.”
Whatever happens, it will likely be an entertaining fight as long as it lasts.
