Former super-middleweight world champion, Carl Froch, has made headlines in recent weeks after calling out Anthony Joshua on comments that he deemed as disrespectful towards Rob McCracken, who once trained both men.
Whilst complimentary of McCracken in some areas, ‘AJ’ said he was now fighting to get his best years back after the British trainer didn’t teach him defence, using Froch’s nose an example to make his case.
In response, Froch said that Joshua refused to listen to McCracken and that was the reason why their relationship fell apart.
Now, in an interview with talkSPORT, ‘The Cobra’ has denied any friction with the two-time heavyweight champ, but suggested that he should show more respect for the man who guided him to such a successful career.
“I’ve got no beef with him, at all, none. I only want the best for Anthony Joshua, and Dillian Whyte and all the other English fighters.
I’ve got nothing against [Oleksandr] Usyk or Deontay Wilder but we want them heavyweight title belts to stay in England, we want a unification fight at some point.
I thought it [AJ’s comments] was in bad taste. Rob McCracken got him his amateur fight card back when it was a bit sketchy for him, without going into any details, then he went on to win an Olympic gold medal at London 2012.
On from that, he won three world titles, ten world title fights back-to-back, he’s wasted time with Rob McCracken? Look at what you’ve achieved under Rob McCracken and show some respect, that’s all I’ve said.”
Joshua has had three different trainers for his last three fights, but is set to end that run with a second contest under the guidance of Derrick James.
The pair are currently preparing for a rematch with Dillian Whyte, that takes place on August 12 at the O2 Arena, headlining a card that can be watched live on DAZN PPV.
