The WBC middleweight title fight between Carlos Adames and Austin Williams has been rescheduled for Mar. 21, according to The Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger.
Adames (24-1-1, 18 KOs) will collide with ‘Ammo’ Williams (20-1, 13 KOs) to defend his belt in Orlando, Florida. Adames cited illness as the reason for him cancelling the originally planned bout, just one day before the boxing event, on the undercard of Shakur Stevenson‘s defeat of Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden in New York on Jan. 31.
Williams instead faced late replacement Wendy Toussaint, winning a clear unanimous-decision.
Adames was elevated to WBC champion in May 2024 having held the interim version of the belt. The Dominican defended his title with a unanimous decision over Terrell Gausha a month later, and shared a majority draw with England’s Hamzah Sheeraz, the following year.
Williams was due to fight for his first world title in New York. The 29-year-old southpaw’s only defeat coincidently came against Sheeraz on June 1st, 2024, losing by an 11th round stoppage.
