In the wake of his impressive victory over Liam Smith, Chris Eubank Jr has been linked to plenty of fights, though one world champion he dismissed as ‘unheard of’ has now responded and said he will knock the Brit out in the ‘first round.’
After stopping Smith in a flawless display, Eubank has options as to where to go now – one being a fight with Connor Benn should ‘The Destroyer’ be able to resolve the legal issues with the British Boxing Board of Control and UK Anti-Doping which linger around his failed drug tests in 2022.
He could also attempt to win his first legitimate word honours by going after middleweight belt holder Jermall Charlo or wait to face the winner of Erislandy Lara versus Danny Garcia for the WBA title.
Alternatively, the winner of Janibek Alimkhanuly versus Vincenzo Gualtieri on October 14 will be the unified IBF and WBO champion and surely a tantalising prospect for Eubank, though he has said neither man has a high enough profile to generate a big pay-per-view event.
Speaking to ESNEWS, the 14 and 0 southpaw Alimkhanuly, who has wins over Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam and Denzel Bentley, was told Eubank has said he doesn’t know who he is and he responded in kind through a translator.
“Who is Chris Eubank? Is he a world champion? He knows Janibek, he just doesn’t want to fight.”
He was then asked what would happen should the two men come to blows in future.
“Not tomorrow, now. I would knock him out. First round, of course. Kazakh style is number one.”
He then describe his own unique style before offering a prediction for his fight with Gualtieri at Fort Bend Community Center in Rosenberg.
“I want to put Kazakh style like Mexican style into the world. Everybody knows Kazakh style. It will be an interesting fight [with Gualtieri]. Fans will see a knockout out.”
Janibek Alimkhanuly versus Vincenzo Gualtieri will air live on ESPN.
