Chantelle Cameron has given an update on her next fight and claims that it will not be a rematch with Katie Taylor adding that ‘it’s down to Katie, not me.’
Cameron is a former undisputed light-welterweight champion who has been in the news this year because of a switch in her trainer.
She left long time coach Jamie Moore on good terms, but has decided to freshen things up by moving to Grant Smith’s gym in Sheffield.
The Brit, now aged 32, lost on points to the legendary Taylor out in Dublin back in November and surrendered her world titles as a result. The fight was a rematch of their May 2023 contest which saw Cameron come out on top on the cards.
It has long been said that a trilogy bout was in the works for this summer, but Cameron has now taken to social media to address that. Although she very much wants that fight, it seems it isn’t on the cards just yet even though she is willing to take less money.
“Just an update on talks with the Katie fight. I have agreed to a massive purse reduction to make this fight happen financially as this was what I was told was the hold up from the fight being agreed.
“The reason is because I wanted to create my own legacy. Now it looks like Katie will take a “keep busy” fight and avoid me as I think she knows that certain things that went her way in the last fight won’t happen again.
“Sorry to the actual boxing fans who wanted to see this fight but the trilogy not happening is down to Katie and her team and not me.”
Quite who either boxer faces instead is unsure, but it is unlikely to be a match-up as thrilling as facing one another.
