Chantelle Cameron parted ways with her long-time trainer Jamie Moore earlier in February and has now revealed some of the reasons why saying that ‘something was missing.’
Initially, Cameron began her professional journey under the guidance of Shane McGuigan. However, in 2019, she joined forces with Moore, culminating in her becoming undisputed super-lightweight champion with a win over Jessica McCaskill in November 2022.
Cameron achieved a career highlight by defending her titles against Katie Taylor last May. However, Taylor avenged the defeat by emerging victorious in their rematch in November.
While negotiations for a third bout between the two fighters are ongoing for this summer, Cameron will enter the fight with her new coach Grant Smith. Speaking to Boxing King Media, she explained her thinking behind the split.
“It was not after the Katie fight. The talks happened with me and my manager and my family before the Katie rematch. Something was missing. It got to a point where I had the fight but I felt like I was coming to the end of my career.
“I’m 32 and have a couple of fights left but I needed a change. It wasn’t the loss. It just ended up happening at the worst time.
“If I’d have won the fight then changed people wouldn’t have been able to paint this picture. But I needed to do what was best for me. I’ve got no regrets, the future’s bright and now I’m excited for what’s next.”
Whether the change in trainers is good for Cameron, we shall only find out once they have a few fights under their belts together.
