Derek Chisora came face-to-face with Tyson Fury at yesterday’s press conference, but the ‘Gypsy King’ seemed more concerned about criticising Anthony Joshua than focussing on his next fight.
Boxing fans were clearly disappointed at the collapse of he British mega-fight between Fury and Joshua, and whilst both boxers have moved on from the situation, it is clearly still playing on Tyson’s mind.
The WBC heavyweight champion consistently mentioned Joshua’s name at media scrums ahead of his fight with ‘Del Boy’, who is friends with AJ and promoter Eddie Hearn. Chisora defended his opponents rival and claimed that Joshua is living in the head of Fury “rent free”.
In an interview with Boxing Social, ‘WAR’ Chisora said:
“He [Fury] was trying to rush [the fight] for December, if the fight had been in February, then AJ [Joshua] would have done it. But you have to understand that AJ has so many sponsorship deals and contracts saying that things have to be done this way or that way because of all these deals. So they realised that they could not agree on that situation, they said ‘we out’.”
“I think Tyson [Fury] loves AJ, because AJ is living in Tyson’s head rent free right now, every minute it’s “gym instructor”, “bodybuilder” saying how he lost a fight. Tyson wakes up thinking ‘Ah AJ!, AJ is in his mind every day.”
Whilst fans remain hopeful of seeing Fury-Joshua, the fight will have to wait, with Tyson expecting to take on Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed crown, providing he overcomes Chisora for a third time. Fury-Chisora is set to take place on December 3rd on BT Sport Box Office.
