Derek Chisora believes Jake Paul should double Tommy Fury’s purse regardless of whether or not their terms were signed.
The YouTuber-turned-fighter tried to spice things up on fight week by offering Fury double or nothing for their catchweight clash in Saudi Arabia.
Despite accepting the wager, it was later revealed by Paul that the contract provided by his lawyer had not been signed by Fury’s side. Just as well for the American, because he lost. After eight rounds, the Brit took it by split decision.
Chisora, who was helping to promote the event on behalf of Saudi, believes that Fury should be paid regardless of the lack of a signature, and has threatened to leak the contract if Paul doesn’t do so. The clip was shared by FightHype.
“I was driving and I thought about something. When we were on the stage in Saudi for this fight, Tommy and Jake shook on a bet – and I got the contract – so I think Tommy should get money off Jake Paul, or else I’m gonna leak the contract out. I got it.
A bet is a bet. They shook hands on it. You don’t need a contract, you don’t need anything. Man-to-man, you shake hands? You pay the man you shook hands with. Jake Paul should wire money to Tommy. That’s fair.”
It’s not clear why Chisora leaking the contract would be an inconvenience to Paul.
‘Del Boy’ believes Fury deserves double, but from the way the Brit reacted to the victory in the ring, it seems like the win was enough for him. He broke down in tears post-fight, dedicating the win to his newborn daughter and citing the pressure that’s been put on him to beat Paul.
The loser is now expected to activate the rematch clause in the contract that will see the pair fight again next, with Fury already making it known that he’s happy to do so.
Whether or not there will be any purse betting going on this time around remains to be seen.
