# Chris Eubank Jr Adds Former Heavyweight Champion To Training Team

Chris Eubank Jr and Roy Jones Jr have expanded their team ahead of a second fight with Liam Smith in June.

[Eubank was served the first stoppage loss of his career in Manchester back in January](https://wp.boxing-social.com/news/liam-smith-stuns-chris-eubank-jr-with-incredible-ko/) – a victory that upset the odds and plunged his boxing future into doubt.

After resisting the temptation of a mega-money fight with Conor Benn, the 33-year-old activated his rematch clause and set the wheels in motion for what is an extremely decisive fight at the tail end of his career.

Four-weight world champion, [Roy Jones Jr, remains the head honcho in the corner](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21125242/chris-eubank-jr-roy-jones-jr-liam-smith-rematch/), but has revealed to [ProBox TV](https://proboxtv.com/news/david-haye-joins-jones-jr-in-eubank-jrs-training-team-for-rematch-with-smith/en) that they’ve welcomed David Haye into the mix.

> “It’s a bit of motivation for Chris. David Haye is a former world champion, so he’s a person who’s experienced it all and understands and knows the tools, and two heads are better than one.”

As for what the two-weight champ brings to the table, Jones believes there’s plenty – a trained eye, communication and intellect.

> “When you got somebody that already understands and knows, it’s good to have him around – especially if they’re good friends, because what David does is David sometimes reminds you of the things that you’re not doing that you should be doing.
>
> He’s more close to your age \[at 42\], so y’all can communicate a little bit better and a little bit different than I can. I’m from a whole different era. You understand where I’m coming from?
>
> He brings awesome experience to the table. He has the eye; he has a very high IQ; he’s a much more intellectual person than I knew him to be ‘cause I got to know him better. Much more intellectual than I knew before.”

Whether the addition will be enough to put a dent in a confident Liam Smith remains to be seen.

The Liverpudlian fan-favourite will enter the ring riding high on his January stoppage, and history tells us that immediate rematches tend to sway towards repeat rather than revenge.
