Chris Eubank Jr is currently searching for his next opponent after gaining revenge over Liam Smith in September, but a current world champion has mocked the Brit, claiming he doesn’t know who he is.
Eubank is believed to be weighing up options for his next opponent, with Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn teasing a lucrative showdown against Conor Benn, and a matchup with super middleweight king Canelo Alvarez also being spoken about.
Wasserman Boxing chief Kalle Sauerland seemingly has different plans, stating that while talks for a domestic clash with Kell Brook are ongoing, Eubank Jr’s team are also exploring a shot at world honours against unified middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly.
The Kazakh has fired shots at Eubank though regarding the news, posting on X that he hasn’t heard of his rival, and would stop him quickly if a fight happened.
“Eubank? Who is he? Is he a boxer? Is he a champion? If he’s a boxer, then I’ll knock him out in the first round inshallah!”
Alimkhanuly has dispatched of two British contenders in his unbeaten run as a professional, dismantling Danny Dignum in two rounds back in 2022 and then, later that year, outpointing Denzel Bentley in a more competitive affair for the full WBO strap.
Whether it will be Alimkhanuly next for Eubank remains to be seen, with a potential Benn fight still available, but dependent on the BBBofC and Benn case for a licence to box professionally in the UK, as his was suspended following two failed VADA tests in 2022.
