Chris Eubank Jr has advised Conor Benn to ‘shut up’ and that ‘no science’ is going to save him from a negative public perception.
The Brighton-based fighter’s comments come as Benn awaits the results from a WBC investigation into the failed drugs test that saw the pair’s fight cancelled in October of 2022.
Eubank told IFL TV that he wished Benn would just stop talking until he could say something of substance.
“He’s just pissing people off at this point. ‘Thank god for science’ and ‘I’m innocent and I can’t wait to show it’ – just shut up until you actually have some solid, real things to show people and tell people.
All this cryptic bulls**t is just annoying people. Especially me. No science is gonna save him. No science is gonna get the fans that he’s lost back on his side. Whatever he’s got planned and whatever excuses he’s got made up, it’s too late. You are the bad guy, Conor, just like me – join the club mu friend.”
“I’m not gonna buy it, but more importantly the public are not gonna buy it. He’s going to have that black mark next to his name for the rest of his career and he just has to accept that.”
Doping scandals aside for a moment, there’s no question that the bad blood between the pair has intensified, and that promoters will be keen to capitalise on that.
Asked if the fight happens this year, Eubank was unsure – but he certainly hasn’t ruled it our for the future.
“I have no idea. I don’t know if he’s gonna get banned. I don’t know what’s gonna happen with this guy.
Do I still want the fight? Yes. As long as it’s on my terms. There is no weight clauses and rehydration restrictions. It’s definitely a fight that can still be made, but he has to explain himself before any of that is even thought about.”
As Benn continues his attempts to clear his name, Eubank Jr returns to action this weekend against Liam Smith on Sky Sports Box Office. All of the undercard information can be found here.
