The ‘GWOAT’ Claressa Shields has weighed in with a prediction for a potential match-up between two of her countrymen, Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.
Talk surrounding a fight between undisputed lightweight champion Haney and Stevenson has gained traction over the past week or so, after Stevenson revealed he turned down a 75/25 purse split to take on ‘The Dream.
Stevenson is currently mandatory challenger for the WBC belt, though the sanctioning body has not ordered the fight as of yet.
In a recent interview with ES News, Shields revealed she was backing the Newark southpaw to get the better of Haney, as well as the likes of Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia, claiming “nobody’ can beat him.
“As much love as I have for Devin Haney, the truth is this – I don’t think anybody can beat Shakur Stevenson. Not Gervonta Davis, not Devin, not Ryan Garcia, not anybody. That’s just me being completely honest.”
“But all those guys are excellent fighters, they’re great, they’ve got power. But Shakur is like a male Claressa Shields, so he’s not going to get beat! That’s me being honest.”
Talks are believed to have taken place for a rematch between Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko, with many feeling the Ukrainian was hard done by in their first fight back in May.
There has also been speculation that 135lbs Haney may decide to move up in weight to super lightweight, potentially for a shot at either WBC champion Regis Prograis or recently crowned WBO champion and long time rival Teofimo Lopez.
Whether it’s a rematch with Lomachenko, a fight with Stevenson or moving up in weight for Prograis or Lopez, Haney’s next fight seems all but guaranteed to be another big occasion.
