Conor Benn continues to struggle to get back into the ring after the woes around his failed drug tests continue but now the Brit has potentially had a next opponent revealed.
Benn is still not yet cleared to fight under the auspices of the British Boxing Board of Control having first lost his license following two failed drug tests ahead of his fight with Chris Eubank Jnr back in October 2022.
Right now, Benn is still provisionally suspended from boxing. This comes after the UK Anti-Doping Agency and the British Boxing Board of Control successfully appealed against a decision by an independent National Anti-Doping panel that had initially lifted a ban last July.
Already this year Benn has been linked with plenty of names. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, all but confirmed back in April that a fight between his boxer and Gervonta Davis was a βdoneβ deal, while Benn has also been seen in head to heads with Manny Pacquiao out in Saudi Arabia which got many people thinking the pair might have arranged a contest, but that has not yet materialised.
A new post by EverythingBoxing on X has details of the potential bout.
“π WBC #1 and #2 ranked boxers Souleymane Cissokho and Conor Benn on social media today. This is following the news that Terence Crawford has been made the WBC champion in recess at Welterweight. The WBC also has an interim champion – Mario Barrios.”

The news got many people talking about how Benn might have earned that status having only fought twice against low-level opponents in the last two-plus years.
EverythingBoxing explained this in further posts on X.
“Being the #1 challenger isn’t necessarily about wins. You just need a good promoter, good trinket belts and pad up a resume. It’s difficult. I’m sure there are commissions that would licence him and if the WBC believes he can’t fight, why is he still in the rankings?”
Cissokho is a Senegal-born French professional boxer who won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and is currently 17-0. He fights with Matchroom which would no doubt make this bout easier to make and recently defended his WBC Silver Title against Isaias Lucero in Monaco in November 2023 to edge towards a world title tilt.
