After many months of waiting, Conor Benn has not received the news he was hoping for after hearing the verdict of his UKAD appeal.
Benn had been hoping to clear his name and get a license back to fight under the auspices of the British Boxing Board of Control having not done so since before October 2022 when he failed two drug tests and tested positive for the banned substance clomifene.
That was in the ill-fated run-up to his fight with Chris Eubank Jr and since then he has fought just twice, both times out in the United States.
Now, his hopes of putting this behind him have been dashed as UK Anti-Doping and the British Boxing Board of Control have won an appeal against the verdict to lift his temporary suspension, after Carl Froch said there was one thing he needed to do to get back to boxing.
The Daily Mail is reporting that this decision was communicated last week by the National Anti-Doping Panel, who initially cleared Benn to continue fighting in the UK back in July, only for that to be challenged by the Board and UKAD who maintained that the 27-year-old should not be licensed to fight until a thorough explanation has been provided of how the drug got in his system in the first place.
“Mail Sport understands they have been successful in that protracted process, though it is currently unclear whether the outcome of the appeal could lead to Benn’s British-based suspension being reimposed.”
Neither the Board of Control nor UKAD have shared any further comment and representatives for Benn are adamant that he remains free to fight, and he continues to be linked with plenty of big names.
