Craig ‘Spider’ Richards delivered a punch-perfect performance against Jake Ball, successfully capturing the vacant WBA Continental light-heavyweight championship with a stunning third-round stoppage victory.
A straight right-hand from Richards – the marginal pre-fight underdog – found the mark early, dropping Ball and springing the round into life, which was until that point dictated by tense range-finding.
However, Richards was consistent with a sharp left jab throughout and often found himself in position to pull the trigger on the straight right, repeatedly wobbling Ball and dropping him once again in the second.
Ball looked hurt but was ultimately able to survive the round, before succumbing to the pressure in the third as he was staggered again by the South Londoner, who ruthlessly pummelled Ball into submission to force a stoppage in the signature win of his career.
