Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre – coach to Terence Crawford and Chris Eubank Jr – has reportedly been detained in Manchester after attempting to pass through the airport with ‘a loaded gun and ammunition’ in his suitcase.
The esteemed trainer was in the UK to oversee Chris Eubank Jr’s revenge mission over Liam Smith – something the pair had been working on for just four weeks together.
Eubank dominated a lacklustre Smith, leading to a TKO in the tenth. The result was against the odds, and takes ‘BoMac’s big wins of 2023 tally to two following Terence Crawford’s stellar stoppage victory over Errol Spence Jr to become undisputed welterweight champion.
Both wins combined make ‘BoMac’ a shoo-in for Trainer of the Year awards, with a Spence rematch having the potential to cement that for good.
Mail Sport reports that Greater Manchester Police arrested the 53-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska after the firearm was flagged during standard luggage checks ahead of his flight to Atlanta on Sunday morning.
A police spokesperson said:
“At around 10:45 am on Sunday 3 September 2023, officers were called to reports of a possible firearm being found in hold luggage by airport staff at Manchester Airport.
After initial inspection by security staff, GMP officers attended, and the firearm was seized. Subsequently, a man has been arrested for possession of a firearm and remains in custody for further questioning.”
As of writing, it’s unclear how or if the gun was brought into the country upon McIntyre’s arrival.
The esteemed coach is next due in the corner of undefeated up and coming lightweight, Keyshawn Davis, in his bout against Nahir Albright on October 14.
