Sheffield’s Dalton Smith despite only being sixteen fights into his career, has been talked about as a potential future British star. The unbeaten super lightweight was set to fight before the end of the year, however this has now been cancelled.
Smith is coming off two stoppage victories against Jose Zepeda and Sam Maxwell respectively.
’Thunder’ has also been rumoured to fight Boxxer’s Adam Aziz for a few years now.
Azim’s team pulled him out of purse bids for the proposed fight earlier this year, which has led many to accuse ‘The Assassin’ of ducking his fellow prospect.
Despite, the back and forths, this fight will be talked about right up until it happens.
Smith was set to return to the ring on September 28th to try claim the vacant European super lightweight title against Jon Fernandez.
However, the fight was postponed after Smith had suffered an undisclosed injury.
Nevertheless, per EverythingBoxing, today Smith has been removed as a co-challenger for the European title.
This was because the Brit would not have been ready until early next year, which was ‘not acceptable’ for Fernandez.
Now as a result, the European Boxing Union (EBU) have now ordered Pierce O’Leary to fight Jon Fernandez for the vacant belt.
We will have to wait and see who Dalton Smith fights next, it is likely that after Azim’s latest victory verus Ohara Davies, many will instaneously call for the fight to finally take place.
However, a fight verus Harlem Eubank, not only would be easier to make, but it would also be a popular pick amongst fans.
Eubank appeared to be set to fight Azim a few months ago, but the fight never materialised.
Eubank is set to fight Nurali Erdogan in November, which assuming the fight goes to plan for him, he should be ready to fight Smith in the first quarter of 2025.
Smith’s promoter Eddie Hearn has made it clear on a number of occasions that he expects his fighter to reach the very top.
Sheffield has housed some special fighters over the years and Smith could be next in line.
