Boxing News Today: Knockout of The Year, Dana White Talks ‘Awesome’ Shooting, & Australia’s Best Boxer Ever

Alan Chaves — remember the name!

The Argentine southpaw who had, up until Saturday, April 25, fought exclusively in his homeland, made his Las Vegas debut on a Matchroom show and was sure to make it one to remember.

Considering his penchant for powerful punching, it should, perhaps, have been no surprise that he’d secure a knockout at Fontainbleau. But his knockout of Miguel Madueno in the third round was as ruthless as it was haunting, and could well be the clubhouse leader for Knockout of the Year.

Boxing Social’s reporter Carlos Linares provided more details here.

But you can watch the thrilling finish below, too.

Sheesh!

Linares summarized the situation when posting on X, formerly Twitter: “We have a new player in the 135 pounds.”

Dana White Reacts to Shooting Near US President Donald Trump

Elsewhere, Zuffa Boxing boss Dana White perhaps gave one of the most extraordinary reactions to a live shooter situation when he was sitting only a matter of feet away from US President Donald Trump’s table at the Washington Hilton, for The White House Correspondents’ Dinner — a celebration of press freedom with speeches and satire.

For the bulk of White’s quotes, see Boxing Social editor Alan Dawson’s report here in which the combat sports figurehead said “it was f****** awesome.”

Huh?

Australia’s Best Boxer Ever Could be up For Grabs

Tim returns to action against Denis Nurja on April 5.

And finally, Australia’s GOAT in boxing could be a status up for grabs during the Tim Tszyu’s lifetime in professional sports as former national hero Jeff Fenech proclaimed the Phoenix as someone who could go down as the country’s best ever fighter.

“I can see that he’s grown up and I’ve always seen what I believe he’s missing out on,” Fenech told Fox Sports.

“I’ve told him that, if in two weeks he doesn’t think what we’re doing is right, my door is open. I don’t do these contracts, I’m not about that. This is not for money, it’s not for fame or fortune.”

“This is to help someone who I believe can be Australia’s greatest fighter.”

“If I can help him get to that platform, I would be so, so happy.

“We all talk about the things that’s he’s done but without Tim, there would be no Australian boxing for the last couple of years,” Fenech finished. “We should all be proud of him.”
