Dave Allen has made no secret that he’s targetting a big domestic fight following a lowkey comeback to the sport.
Following a brief retirement back in November of 2020, Allen has only fought a combined five rounds against opposition not on his level.
It’s part of a bigger plan, however, and the ‘White Rhino’ has been linked to both a challenge for Fabio Wardley’s Lonsdale belt as well as a fight with Frazer Clarke having previously boxed world level opponents such as Luis Ortiz, Dillian Whyte, Tony Yoka and David Price.
Speaking on Instagram, Allen confirmed he wanted the Wardley fight and denied rumours that he has turned down the opportunity, but admitted that it is looking less and less likely to happen.
“There has been no offer made to me from Matchroom or from his [Wardley’s] team. Matchroom did approach us, asking about a certain date and a figure, amongst other things, but that is as far has it has gotten. There has been no offer, and the planned date is about six weeks away.”
“People were saying that I turned the fight down and all this other nonsense. I’ve been pushing for it quite hard, to be honest, I’ve been messaging Eddie [Hearn] most days. I know I irritate him, but it is what it is, I am what I am, very annoying, but I really wanted the fight.”
“If he goes on to box [David] Adeleye or someone else then great, brilliant fight and they are worthy of the fight, maybe more-so than me at this stage. I’m not bitter about it, but I did push really hard for it and it doesn’t look likely now, which is fine. Frazer Clarke won tonight, maybe that is an option [for me].”
Wardley is tipped to fight on either July 29 or August 12, but his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has told Boxing Social that Allen is unlikely for the opposite corner.
