David Haye has been asked about what he sees happening between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk when they come to blows this weekend and he has made a rather controversial prediction.
Haye of course has a history with Fury having twice been set to fight him in the past, although a contest never materialised.
Haye had his own shot at heavyweight greatness when he took on Wladimir Klitschko but failed to get a foothold in the fight and ended up losing a wide points decision while Fury famously managed to dethrone the same long-reining champion and has been unbeaten ever since.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Haye was asked how he saw the fighting going in Saudi Arabia this Saturday while Usyk has had a pop at Fury’s training for the fight.
“My last five pounds goes on a majority draw. I think Usyk will win the fight the same way I thought Ngannou won when he fought Tyson Fury. I think two judges will have it a draw, one will have it for Usyk, so it will be a draw.”
Haye was then asked if Fury beat Usyk if he still had to beat Anthony Joshua to prove he was the best of his era.
“I think just looking at the past performances against Ngannou they’re going to need to figure it out. They’re both British, Joshua starched Ngannou, and Ngannou in my opinion beat Tyson, so Ngannou was the baddest man on the planet, Fury didn’t take that title off him, Joshua did. So on paper, you’ve got the baddest man on the planet against the undisputed champion.
“I think he will need to beat Anthony Joshua to prove it. I get why he won’t want to case he has all the belts but he lost to Ngannou. Joshua showed how to beat someone who had never boxed before, he blasted him out of there. The fact Ngannou had so much success against Fury, I think that leaves a bit of a question mark for Fury.”
That is a fight many people want to see, but first Fury must deal with the unbeaten Ukrainian.
