David Haye has came out with some praise for Tommy Fury after his win over Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia this past weekend.
Haye has made a habit of picking against Tommy’s brother Tyson in recent fights, and kept this theme up when he predicted Paul would defeat ‘TNT’ at the Diriyah Arena.
However, Haye was happy to hold his hands up when speaking to iFL TV and commended Fury on his efforts.
“I thought the occasion may get to Tommy Fury and maybe he overlooked Jake Paul, but he didn’t, he put forth a great effort.
“It was a close fight with the knockdown at the end, but he was the rightful winner – looking forward to the rematch.”
“So much pressure on both of those young fighters. At this stage normally fighters are on undercards with no real spotlight, but these guys had everything on them and they both rose to the occasion.”
Fury survived a point deduction and a final round knockdown to edge a split decision win over Paul, who was also docked a point earlier in the fight
After a drawn out and sour build up that has spanned well over a year, the pair showed each other nothing but respect after the contest and embraced, putting to bed all the bad blood that had manifested.
There looks to be every chance that fans could be treated to a second serving of the fight, with Paul telling the media post fight that he intends to activate the contractual rematch clause
Unsurprisingly, Fury stated that he would be more than happy to accommodate the brash YouTuber, and collect another career high pay day that would no doubt accompany another fight.
Momentum has already started to build for a second fight, after John Fury demanded Paul pay up for the ‘double or nothing’ bet they made during the build-up, whilst the American’s team have strongly refuted this.
