Oscar De La Hoya has disclosed where a potential fight between his charge Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis would be likely to place – and believes it is destined for the fight capital of the world.
Speaking to FightHype, De La Hoya revealed that negotiations between the two sides were progressing well, and that, in his mind, Las Vegas would be the only place for the fight.
“Look, both sides are continuing to talk. It’s getting close – that’s all I can say.”
“It’s a Las Vegas fight, definitely.”
An official announcement of a meeting between Garcia and Davis would be some much-needed good news for boxing fan, who will be feeling let down after talks for two huge fights, Fury vs Joshua and Spence vs Crawford, both collapsed recently.
Weight was an issue of much contention for a fight between the two young American stars, but that appears to have been resolved with an agreement reportedly in place for a catchweight of 136lbs – one lb over the lightweight limit.
With Garcia and Davis having got involved in numerous online verbal exchanges on social media as well as trading insults in interviews, fans will be glad to hear of some actual progress being made and will be cautiously optimistic a fight between the two is getting closer.
Davis has some issues out of the ring to resolve first, with the Baltimore native due to appear in court in December over an alleged 2020 hit and run case, with time in prison believed to be a genuine possibility.
