Former world lightweight champions Vasiliy Lomachenko and Richard Commey will collide at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York on December 11.
Regarded as boxing’s pound-for-pound No.1 before his upset loss to Teofimo Lopez a year ago, Lomachenko (15-2, 11 KOs) subsequently underwent surgery for a torn rotator cuff and returned with a ninth-round stoppage over lanky Japanese contender Masayoshi Nakatani in June.
Commey (30-3, 27 KOs) previously lost his IBF 135lbs crown to Lopez in two rounds in December 2019. The Ghanaian halted Jackson Marinez in eight rounds in his last bout in February.
Lomachenko-Commey will be broadcast after the prestigious Heisman Trophy presentation to America’s standout college gridiron player, according to ESPN.com’s Mike Coppinger.
