Deontay Wilder is back in action on June 1st against Zhilei Zhang and has now made a bold claim in the build up to it.
Both Wilder and Zhang need to get back to winning ways in this fight if they are to keep their dreams of a world title fight alive. In their last outings, they have both lost to the same man over 12 rounds, and that man is Joseph Parker.
He beat Wilder back in December on the Day of Reckoning card, while he beat Zhang in March on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s destruction of Francis Ngannou.
This heavyweight fight is one of two at the weight on the Matchroom vs Queensbury 5 v 5 card and Wilder is Eddie Hearn’s captain meaning he gets double points for a win.
The other fights are Daniel Dubois versus Fillip Hrgovic, Nick Ball versus Ray Ford, Ammo Williams versus Hamzah Sheeraz, and Craig Richards versus Willy Hutchinson.
Ahead of the fight he has been speaking to Queensbury and has made a big prediction.
“With him having the pedigree that he has, the height, the big bang, the good punching, the good technique, the southpaw, all that is amazing to me, it makes it an exciting fight.
“He’s a great person to make a statement by with the calibre he has to show people that I am truly back ’cause when I destroy him like I know I do it’s back to the top I go.”
