Deontay Wilder’s professional boxing career may well be over after suffering a fourth defeat in five outings at the weekend. However, this could the least of concerns for ‘The Bronze Bomber’, as his fiancée has filed and been granted a restraining order against him ahead of his return from Saudi Arabia.
Wilder lost the opportunity to face long-term rival Anthony Joshua when he was whitewashed by Joseph Parker in December but attempted to bounce back on Saturday night against Zhilei Zhang on the ‘Queensberry versus Matchroom; five versus five’ card in Riyadh.
Unfortunately for the American, the 41-year-old fan-favourite seemed to close the curtain on Wilder’s time in the ring – knocking him out with a prodigious right-hook whilst his back was turned and his legs were wobbly.
Whilst fans around the globe have begun to show their appreciation for Wilder, who brought much-needed excitement back to the heavyweight division after a period of Eastern-European dominance, his fiancée, Telli Swift, has been granted a restraining order against her partner back home in Los Angeles amid claims of numerous instances of domestic violence, as reported by TMZ.
“In her application for the order, Swift accused Wilder of choking her “at least five times” since 2018. She also stated the 38-year-old heavyweight spit on her several other times … and claimed he once shoved her face in a pillow in a fit of rage for so long, she “nearly suffocated.
“Swift also alleged that back in mid-April, Wilder gained access to her laptop without her consent and sent out disturbing messages to her personal and professional contacts.
“According to Swift, the abuse didn’t stop there … she claimed in the TRO application that Wilder constantly ridiculed her, threatened to destroy her belongings, and expected her to have intercourse with him “three times a day.”
“Most recently, on April 15, she claimed he had her thrown out of their Atlanta residence — this despite her being in a fragile state due to recent invasive surgery.”
Wilder will be required to stay a minimum of 100 yards away from Swift, until they are expected to appear in front of a judge on June 25th, allowing Swift to keep her distance from her partner whilst fearing that a frustrated Wilder could take out his anger on her after the disheartening defeat.
“I believe Deontay is capable of being physically violent towards me upon his return in June because he has expressed that he is furious with me since April and has been physically abusive with me in the past.”
In terms of his boxing career, it seems as though any hopes of a return to the heavyweight throne have now diminished for the hard-hitting 38-year-old. Although, should he stick around, he has been linked to a clash with Francis Ngannou in a two-fight deal that spans across both the ring and the cage, but the Cameroonian is supposedly making his PFL debut this Autumn against Renan Ferreira.
