# Deontay Wilder Predicts Canelo-Charlo: “This Will Be A Defining Moment”

Former WBC Heavyweight Champion, Deontay Wilder, has revealed his prediction ahead of this weekend’s undisputed super-middleweight title clash between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and the current super-welterweight king, Jermell Charlo.

[Canelo has said that he wants this fight to prove that he is still the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet](https://wp.boxing-social.com/news/champion-prove-hes-king-of-boxing/) following a trifecta of below-par displays over the last eighteen months.

The Mexican superstar picked up his first defeat in almost nine years last May, losing out to Dmitry Bivol in the light-heavyweight division, before back-to-back underwhelming points victories against Gennady Golovkin and John Ryder at 168 – two bouts that many fans expected to end in stoppage.

Meanwhile, Charlo enters the ring as undisputed super-welterweight champion off a [career-best win against Brian Castano](https://www.dazn.com/en-US/news/boxing/jermell-charlo-vs-brian-castano-2-live-updates-results-highlights/1v84hkb3irsad1a17vhae71tzh), although the two-division jump up in weight remains a mammoth task.

[In an interview with K.O. Artist Sports](https://youtu.be/cAYWBT_HlkI?si=ANkQxXL-ZDFAcrSB), Wilder explained that Charlo’s desire for greatness could prove to be enough on the night.

> “I’ve got high confidence in Charlo, it’s going to be a good one though. I got confidence in both of them though, no matter how shady that sounds. Both of them have different techniques and power when it comes to the boxing game, but I think that it’s going to be a great fight overall.”
>
> “If I was leaning, I’d lean a little bit more towards Charlo. They’ve been wanting this so bad, a lot of people have been wanting Canelo so bad, this is the moment in time for them to prove themselves now that they have him.
>
> With that being said, I think that Charlo is going to really grind out and want this because if he does win, this is going to be a defining moment in his career, being able to beat someone like Canelo.”

Canelo-Charlo takes place this Saturday, live on DAZN in the United Kingdom and Showtime PPV in the US.
