Following the much-anticipated news that Deontay Wilder will be taking on Zhilei Zhang, the American’s trainer has now broken down the fight.
After months of speculation that this fight was in the works, boxing fans finally got the news they wanted yesterday when it was made official.
The contest will take place on the undercard of the Dmitry Bivol versus Artur Beterbiev undisputed light heavyweight showdown as part of the Matchroom v Queensbury 5 on 5 event on June 1 in Saudi Arabia.
Both men are looking to get back to winning ways having both lost to Joseph Parker last time out – Wilder was handed a 12 round points defeat back on the Day of Reckoning card in December while Zhang got the same from Parker back in March.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott gave some backstory to the contest.
“I’m excited, I’m excited about fight night and him doing what I know he can do against a dangerous opponent like Zhang. Zhang is a dangerous opponent but he also has a very dangerous trainer in Shaun George someone I came up with in boxing.
“We come up fighting the Junior Olympics together, literally living together. It’s crazy that 20 years later we’re going head to head, trainer against trainer.”
Then he predicted how the fight might go.
“My whole concern is us dissecting and handling Zhang with very violent manners. All Deontay has to do is have his thinking cap on but be violent at the same time and do something that’s never been done to Zhang, and that’s knock him out cold.”
This fight will be a chance for both men to showcase the power that has so often got them big wins in the past.
