WBC World heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has poured cold water on Anthony Joshua’s bout with Jarrell Miller – claiming that neither man are a draw in America.
With the bout taking place at New York’s famous Madison Square Garden, it marks WBA/WBO/IBF kingpin Joshua’s first venture into the American market, following a breakdown in talks for an undisputed heavyweight showdown with the aforementioned Wilder.
With ‘The Bronze Bomber’ expected to announce his rematch with lineal king Tyson Fury in the coming days, it is fair to say he was less-than-enthused at the prospect of Joshua-Miller stateside.
“Jarrell is still an unknown fighter here in America. Jarrell is from Brooklyn and stuff like that, but they don’t even know him in his own city.” said Wilder in an interview with TalkSport.
“He’s not a name that’s been developed in the market here so for me I don’t think it’s gonna be a great look for him because even Anthony’s not that known here in America.”
With the announcement of the bout bringing an end to another set of drawn-out, public negotiations between Wilder and Joshua, the undefeated American could not resist one final barb when referring to alleged offers sent between the two camps.
“The people that does know – they know about $50 million [that he rejected to fight me].
“They know about the story of the $15 million flat [fee he offered me] and why the fight is not happening. So I don’t think they’re gonna accept it very well, but we’re gonna see.”
Though it is expected that a large number of Joshua’s considerable U.K. fanbase will make the trip over the Atlantic for the bout on June 1st, Alabama-native Wilder stated once again that the match-up will fail to live up to a potential Joshua-Wilder showdown.
“I don’t think they’re gonna get the outcome that they’re expecting is gonna happen. I know they’re expecting the English to come over and support it big, but it shouldn’t be that way.
“If he done the right thing and accepted the fight [with me], and say he’s coming over to fight Deontay Wilder, the outcome would be crazy.” Wilder finished.
