Finchley heavyweight contender Dereck Chisora has revealed that bitter rival Dillian Whyte prevented him from getting in the ring in the wake of Whyte’s exhilarating unanimous decision victory over Joseph Parker last month.
Chisora, who shared twelve gruelling rounds with Whyte in their December 2016 heavyweight grudge match, has been vocal in his desire for a rematch with the Brixton man, and would have issued a challenge to that effect – only to be prevented from doing so by ‘The Bodysnatcher’.
“I want that rematch with Dillian [Whyte].” said Chisora in an interview with Sky Sports.
“He didn’t want me in the ring. He told them: ‘Don’t let Dereck Chisora in the ring.'”
The first bout between the pair is considered by many observers as one of the most exciting heavyweight dust-ups in recent years.
However, with the result – a split decision win for Whyte – still a source of much debate from boxing fans, Chisora called for the two men to look horns once again and settle the score once and for all.
“Let’s have the rematch, what’s the problem?
“I just want to fight Dillian Whyte. He never beat me the first time, so I want to show the people.” said Chisora.
Following his own career-best victory on the Whyte-Parker undercard, in which he scored a spectacular come-from-behind stoppage victory over teak-tough Frenchman Carlos Takam, ‘Del Boy’ has been linked with a host of big names in the heavyweight division.
Despite his promoter Eddie Hearn revealing that an offer had been made to WBC World heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, Chisora remains focused on what he feels is the fan-favourite clash: a return with Whyte.
“It’s not even revenge. It’s a great fight, people want it, and I want to give it to the fans.” Chisora finished.
With Whyte rumoured to be in pole position to challenge unified champion and old adversary Anthony Joshua next April at Wembley Stadium, it is thought that the 30-year-old views Chisora as a step backwards in his pursuit of World honours.
