Derek Chisora did not hold back this week when speaking about DAZN’s broadcast schedule, claiming that most of the boxing being put out by the streaming service is “YouTuber.”
Speaking to IFL TV ahead of his world title fight with Tyson Fury on Saturday night, Chisora gave a scathing assessment of the platform, claiming the only cards worth watching are the ones featuring ‘Del Boy’ himself – although he did so with a smirk that suggests it was more hijinks than real animosity.
“I want to kill DAZN. DAZN is done – because I don’t fight on it. DAZN is only good where I fight there.”
What is DAZN producing right now? YouTuber fights. There’s more YouTuber fights on DAZN right now than professional fights.
When they came in the game they told us ‘watch all the fights on this’, guess what we watch now, YouTuber fights.
I think KSI is doing more promotion for DAZN right now than DAZN themselves!”
Chisora’s last two fights, where he lost Joseph Parker and defeated Kubrat Pulev, were broadcast on DAZN, however the 38 year old’s comments would indicate he is clearly not a man too concerned about burning bridges. Perhaps the smile as he delivered the lines will do something to soften the blow for the broadcaster.
BT Sport pay per view will lay host to Chisora’s fight with Fury this weekend, a contest in which Chisora goes in as a huge betting underdog against arguably the number one heavyweight on the planet.
The fight came under heavy criticism from boxing fans when announced, mainly due to the fact Fury has already defeated Chisora in convincing fashion twice when the pair met in their earlier careers, as well as the latter’s visible decline in his recent ring appearances.
Unified world champion Oleksandr Usyk will reportedly be ringside at the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium, with a deal for an undisputed showdown between himself and Fury believed to be nearing completion – provided ‘The Gypsy King’ comes through Chisora unscathed.
