Heavyweight veteran has issued a warning to Anthony Joshua ahead of his crunch rematch with old foe Dillian Whyte next month.
After a saga around rematch clauses and purse splits, the like of which has seemingly become the norm for any heavyweight fight of note these days, Joshua vs Whyte 2 was announced earlier this week for August 12th at the 02 Arena.
It’s the same venue that played host to their memorable British title fight back in 2015, when Joshua stopped ‘The Bodysnatcher’ in seven rounds after a back and forth affair.
Eight years on, the stakes now are even higher for ‘AJ’, with a money spinning fight against Deontay Wilder in Saudi Arabia on the cards for December.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Chisora claimed Joshua is “f****d” and can say goodbye to the Wilder payday if he is defeated by Whyte.
“This is a test for both fighters. I believe if Dillian loses, he can’t come back from this one, and if ‘AJ’ loses it’s going to be difficult for him to come back as well. I think it’s a 50/50 fight, based on what we last saw.
Put it this way, if anything happens then ‘AJ’ is f****d. That’s it, he ain’t getting the [Wilder] fight.”
Chisora was speaking at the launch press conference for the bout, which was a relatively low key affair when compared to previous occasions on which the two Londoners have come face to face.
Despite question marks over the commercial appeal of Joshua vs Whyte 2, it has sold out on the opening day of ticket sales – though it will be interesting to see how many Pay Per Views are sold at a price of £26.95.
