Devin Haney already has his next fight lined up by that hasn’t stopped an unbeaten American from calling him out ahead of his own fight this weekend.
Haney is the former undisputed lightweight star who has moved up to super lightweight. He picked up a belt in his first contest at the weight when he beat Regis Prograis and now defends the title against Ryan Garcia on April 20.
The build-up has been marred by plenty of controversial behaviour from Garcia’s side but Haney has always maintained his usual cool, calm professionalism.
Ahead of that, his name has been spoken by Richardson Hitchins, who fights this weekend against Gustavo Lemos in a junior welterweight contest on Saturday, April 6 at the Bleaulive Theater at Fontainebleau Las Vegas.
Hitchins (17-0, 7 KOs) is ranked in the top three with the WBC, IBF and WBO but is facing a big puncher in Lemos. Despite that, he took time in the pre-fight press conference to call out Haney for a future contest when he was asked if he would beat him.
“I beat whoever you put in front of me, Subriel Matias, Devin Haney, Teo Lopez, Pittbull, whoever you put in front of me I will get the job done. Like I said, when you put them in with me, none of them guys look the same.
“None of them guys is gunna receive punches, I’m just a guy who is there, there’s going to be a lot of shit coming at you so there will be a lot to deal with, but my focus is not on those guys, it’s on Gustavo Lemos.”
Should Hitchins come through the fight this weekend, it looks like a fight with Haney could be on the horizon soon.
