Ryan Garcia’s first ever world title challenge takes place on Saturday as he prepares to take on undefeated champion Devin Haney for the WBC super-lightweight title, and on social media, Haney has now offered a seven-figure wager to his upcoming opponent.
Haney defeated Regis Prograis back in December to become a two-division champion, but his first defence of the belt comes against a rival who he shares plenty of history with, dating back to their days as amateurs.
Ahead of the bout, ‘The Dream’ has called Garcia out on his words and offered to wager one-million dollars on a separate fight.
Garcia announced on X that he is willing to bet a million dollars on Seniesa Estrada defeating undisputed super-featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner and that he will also pay to stage the contest.
Garcia – “You cool and I sent a DM saying you a baddie for sure, but you switched up, you faulted, it’s over for you BUMGARDNER boxing wise. I have 1 million dollars that Seniesa Estrada beats you. I’ll put up 1 million dollars of my own money to make this fight happen.”
Haney – “I will bet a million on @alyciambaum [Baumgardner]”
Estrada became an undisputed champion in her own right two weeks ago, outpointing fellow unified minimumweight champion Yokasta Valle on the Valdez-Wilson card to pick up the remaining WBO and IBF belts at 105lbs.
For her to challenge Baumgardner for the super-featherweight crown, Estrada would need to make an unprecedented move in weight-classes, where a win would have to go down as one of the most phenomenal achievements in the history of boxing.
