Devin Haney vs Regis Prograis will be one of the biggest fights to take place in boxing this year, however promoter Eddie Hearn already has his sights set on an even bigger one for the winner.
The WBC lightweight world title will be on the line in December, when former undisputed lightweight champion Haney will attempt to pick up honours at a second weight class and dethrone Prograis at the Chase Centre in San Francisco.
And Hearn revealed to Fight Hype that a monster clash against Ryan Garcia “should” lay in waiting for whoever emerges victorious on the night.
“We would make the Ryan Garcia fight. DAZN know that the winner of this fight [Haney vs Prograis] should fight Ryan Garcia.
Ryan Garcia is with DAZN and is with Golden Boy. That fight is so easy to make right now. Whether it’s Devin Haney or Ryan Garcia, whoever wins this fight, it’s a February or March fight in Vegas against Ryan Garcia.
It’s a massive, massive fight for boxing. The winner of this fight is the man at 140, and Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia is a fight that has been talked about for a long time.”
Garcia has also been linked to a money spinning clash on Super Bowl weekend against WBO super lightweight world champion Teofimo Lopez, though there are broadcast issues that would have to be overcome.
All this talk will count for nothing if Garcia does not come through Oscar Duarte later this year, in what will be his first bout since a stoppage loss to Gervonta Davis back in April.
