Australian promoter Angelo Di Carlo has been busy during the COVID-19 period, with two of his charges Demsey McKean and Liam Paro inking deals with Matchroom Boxing.
Unbeaten heavyweight McKean made his US debut in November, defeating a game opponent in Donald Haynesworth on the Andrade-Quigley card, live on DAZN.
World-ranked super-lightweight Liam Paro featured on the undercard of Jake Paul’s rematch with Tyron Woodley this past December, as he overcame the previously undefeated Yomar Alamo on Showtime PPV.
Di Carlo discussed his two fighters’ US debuts and their link-up with Matchroom Boxing.
The Australian promoter said, “I’m very happy with how 2021 ended up for ACE Boxing Group’s fighters. Demsey McKean looked great on his US debut, and he had a brilliant year learning in the gym with the likes of Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua. Demsey looked great on his US debut and he has a fantastic 2022 lined up with Matchroom Boxing.
“Liam Paro was in a war in Tampa against WBO #8 and 20-0 Puerto Rican Yomar Alamo. In that fight, Liam really showed the world why he holds such high ratings with the WBO and IBF. It was no coincidence that he has signed a deal with Matchroom Sport since, he fought and beat a top-class opponent in December, and Matchroom recognized how good Liam is. So he has a massive 2022 ahead.”
On home soil, Di Carlo has continued to stay busy, hosting some Aussie classics, and has plans to host some of the biggest events Australia has seen in recent time over the coming months.
Angelo opened up about the end of 2021 and his hopes for 2022 from an Aussie standpoint.
He said, “The ACE Boxing Group are not slowing down at all on a domestic scene. We hosted one of the best Australian National title fights between Mark Flanagan and Floyd Masson. That fight will be hard to top for action from an all Aussie standpoint. We were all very proud of that fight.
“Abdul Mayweather went on away turf and won the Australian title as well. That was a great win for him and is an example that the ACE Boxing Group will travel home and away to win fights.
“We have Jacob Ng vs Billy Dib coming up next at the Star Casino on the Gold Coast in March, and that fight is really youth versus experience. It’s very hard to pick a winner in that fight and those are the fights the Australian public want to see. I’m excited for that one and many more top class fights for ACE Boxing Group fighters this year.”
