Joseph Diaz has forfeited his IBF super-featherweight crown on the scales, having weighed 3.6lbs over the official 130lbs limit ahead of his scheduled defence against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, on Saturday night.
As a result, Diaz has lost the IBF title he won against Tevin Farmer last year, but the belt is still on the line for No.1 contender Rakhimov who made the weight, scaling 129.8lbs.
Should the unbeaten Russian win tomorrow’s fight, he will be declared the new IBF super-featherweight champion of the world.
Given the excess poundage he was carrying, Diaz did not attempt to make the weight at a second attempt.
